Designed as a lectern, the exhibition-case features a methacrylate top that holds the volumes of the Art Book and Study Book, along with an art print and the Correspondence. These elements reflect the artist’s personal life through drawings of portraits and family scenes, as well as letters exchanged between Joaquín and Clotilde.

The Art Book showcases 71 drawings, organized into chapters that introduce each member of the Sorolla family. This illustrated diary offers a glimpse into the artist’s private life, capturing moments of maternal care, childhood games, afternoons of sewing, napping, reading, studying, and more.

Alongside these carefully crafted graphic pieces, die-cut and reproduced at their original size, as well as attached with three glue points, goes the art print Estudio al natural, a portrait of Clotilde that once graced the couple’s bedroom.

The Study Book serves as a platform for experts who delve into Sorolla’s art and life, including an analysis of the drawings featured in the piece. Correspondence: Three Decades of Love unveils 210 letters between Sorolla and his wife, Clotilde’s letters left unpublished until now.

PRODUCTION PROCESS

Handstitched with cotton thread, both the Art Book and Study Book are bound using traditional craftsmanship.

A detail from Sorolla’s 1906 oil painting Instantánea, Biarritz, printed on canvas, welcomes the reader into the Art Book.

Three glue points attach the 71 die-cut drawings to the book, reproduced at their original size, numbered, and stamped with the Museo Sorolla seal on the reverse side.

A family photograph introduces the Study Book, printed in high quality with a soft-touch, anti-fingerprint matte laminated finish.

A previously unpublished portrait of Clotilde serves as the exquisite image of the art print, reproduced at its original size with numbering and copyright details on the back.

The art print Estudio al natural is stored and protected in a blue-toned cardboard case, with the drawing’s title printed in white ink.

Joaquín Sorolla

Joaquín Sorolla

(1863–1923) A lover of plein air painting, light, and Mediterranean colors, Sorolla is the ultimate expression of Spanish luminism. His fame soon crossed Spanish borders to reach Europe and the United States, where he exhibited several times.

Sorolla is known for his impressionistic style, capturing seascapes and landscapes alike—nature was both his workshop and his inspiration. He also became the most sought-after portraitist of his time, painting everyone from the royal family to political, artistic, and economic figures.
